RCCAO has launched the seventh podcast in its nine-part series, Conversations about Construction, which is aimed at raising awareness about issues that affect the building industry and society.
Timber Talk, features a discussion about the benefits of using mass timber for construction projects with Carpenters District Council of Ontario president Mike Yorke, a director of the RCCAO, and mass timber and wood products business consultant Steven Street who does work for Moses Structural Engineers.

Focus on Transit, features a discussion about Toronto’s transit system with David Crowley, a transportation planner who spent seven years in senior service planning positions with the Toronto Transit Commission, and Ed Levy, a civil engineer and author of Rapid Transit in Toronto: A Century of Plans, Projects, Politics and Paralysis. Along with other important transit issues, the podcast discusses why planning for Ontario Line must continue despite declines in ridership due to COVID19.

RCCAO made recommendations today to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs including the need for a a sustained focus on assisting municipalities as the pandemic ensues. Citing a recent report it commissioned, RCCAO recommended that governments focus on strategic investments in state-of-good-repair projects that will keep jobs and growth on track and our municipalities afloat. Andy Manahan noted that failure to address municipal deficits and maintain infrastructure spending would have devastating economic consequences on Ontario citizens and businesses.
